Stadium Steel
is STL Made
St. Louis-based steel company Alberici has helped build state-of-the-art stadiums all over the United States, including Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota.
But there’s something special about building a world-class stadium in your own backyard.
“If you’re from St. Louis, you know we’re very proud of our sports teams,” says Ryan Schroder, a Project Manager at Alberici. “So to bring in a new stadium to the west side of downtown… uniting everybody out in the streets and within the stadium, it’s just going to be great.”
Alberici’s team in St. Louis is responsible for all the steel in the stadium. This includes the beams that serve as the stadium’s backbone, as well as its best-in-class canopy shade – the largest of any canopy to date in MLS.
Ultimately, Alberici is providing 5,000 tons of steel (10 million pounds of structural steel) and 85,000+ structural bolts – every one of them essential.
Schroeder puts one stadium steel stat in a context any St. Louisan can understand: “The heaviest steel beam is 76,000 pounds, which is equal to 40 Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales.”
The local pride in this project is on display throughout the Alberici facilities. St. Louis CITY SC flags and banners hang throughout the headquarters.
Janine Engle, Project Director at Alberici knows how much this means to their employees. “As you go through the shop, you’ll see the excitement from the guys working on the floor to the supervisors to the office staff,” says Engle. “Everyone in this company is thrilled to be able to build something locally in St. Louis that’s going to be a world-class facility that we’re going to be able to take our children and show them – ‘Hey, mom… dad… grandma… grandpa… we built this.”
Schroeder sums it up best: “This stadium was built for our city, by our city. We’re proud this stadium is STL Made.”
